Chapter 3 Introduction

Sir Joh Bjelke Petersen the Premier of Queensland for a large part of the 1970’s and 1980’s, was the only known target of political assassination in Australia before the 1994 murder of John Newman, Member for Cabramatta. At the time of the assassination attempt, Sir Joh was the overseer of an investigation into the notorious ‘loans affair’, a scandal that brought about the blocking of supply that the Coroner at the 2007 Glebe Inquest into Brian Peters’ Death noted corresponded with the date of the Balibo invasion. The assassination attempt was in reality connected to Balibo. What Sir Joh didn’t know was that as he was on the trail of the ‘funny money’ men connected to dubious Arab funds of the ‘loans affair’, he was actually on the trail of arms dealers!
