Chapter 4 Introduction

The arms dealers would fly to Libya and Michael Murphy would meet with Colonel Gaddafi personally. What was not known was that the arms deal was organised and set up in the Philippines, a nation in the region of the ‘Coral Triangle’ of which East Timor was also a part. All Intelligence communications and intercepts in the ‘Coral Triangle’ had to be suppressed. The arms deal was connected to the conspiracy to cover up the deaths of the Balibo Five and the Indonesian battlefield communications outlining the journalist’s murders. Under the glare of a Royal Commission into Intelligence initiated by Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, all communications, which could lead to surveillance in the area, could potentially uncover communications concerning the Mirage fighter jets for Gaddafi as well as the rifles out of Australia being organised by Michael Murphy, which had to be kept a secret at all costs.
